Outdoor Delight

Could this picture be any more dreamy? I can't think of a better way to spend an evening than under a tree like this breaking bread with friends. Garden designer Judy Kameon provided some great tips for staging an outdoor room perfect for entertaining. Judy is based in Los Angeles and she runs Elysian Landscapes and garden furniture company Plain Air with her husband. She has styled gardens for Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs. If you don't have a natural canopy, Judy suggests pergolas or umbrellas. Lighting is a key element and low-voltage lighting can create the perfect lighting scheme, such as the Moroccan lantern and mirrored votives.

A casual hangout is easy and inexpensive to create. Use brilliant accessories such as pillows pitchers and throws in a disciplined way. Stay within a palette of warm reds, oranges and blues to create a colorful yet laid back vibe. The Bolivian throw blanket above looks cozy and inviting.

Fire can transform a space so if you have access to a fire pit or even a grill, keep it lit when you are expecting guests in the evening. The Olympic fire bowl above sells for just $199.

Now this really makes me wish I had some outdoor space to entertain in! Sadly, guests will have to continue balancing plates on their knees...for the forseeable future anyway.

What happens when the residents begin balancing plates on their knees? Or in my case, living within the duplex turned obstacle course that once resembled my home? I need more space....
